This is Kato participating in an experiment in the stairwell well during GEOL 752, Field Methods in Hydrogeology.
Kato used the stairwell well in Lindley Hall to perfect his Òsediment samplerÓ, used to retrieve a lead weight that had been dropped down a real water well. He added water and sediment from Potter Lake on the KU campus to the stairwell well, in order to simulate the real water-well conditions, but accidentally included a leech (shown below).
