ASHRAE-Funded Active Solar-Thermal Energy System Project

You are vistor number Counter is Down since November 13, 1997.

As part of ARCE 665, Solar Energy Systems Design, and ARCE 681, Architectural Engineering Design I (Doc Rock's building mechanical and energy systems section), our students designed and built an actual, working solar-thermal space heating system. This system should provide approximately 70% of the heating needs for our BMES lab and has a design life of at least 20 years. The system will be studied and modified in future BMS courses.

The students and I thank ASHRAE for providing the majority of funding for this system, as well as those companies that donated some materials or provided parts at reduced prices. If you or your organization would like to be involved in this or other KU Building Mechanical Systems (BMS) projects, please contact me (Doc Rock) at docrock@ku.edu or stop by my office in 2134-D Learned Hall.
