Writing

New! I've created a page of links of especial interest to poets who are looking for literary magazines, first book contests, chapbook contest, and other goodies.

In 2004 I completed an MFA in creative writing from Bennington College, which is a low-residency program (that's how I could live and work in Lawrence, Kansas and go to school in Bennington, Vermont. Otherwise, it would be a heck of a commute). My teachers and my peers there have been fabulous.

Poetry resources on the web that I like...

Poetry Daily is an excellent site that features good poems by contemporary poets, culled from various print and online lit'ry journals.

The Adirondack Review and The Drunken Boat are both fully online lit'ry magazines that are quite good.

webdelsol is a portal of sorts, to lots of other places on the web where writing is happening.

Poetry International Web — They just launched this site not too long ago, and it has lots of interesting tidbits about the poetry world, including news, essays, poems and translations.

The Academy of American Poets site. They have a *lot* of poems and poets on their site. A related site, which teachers of writing and literature would probably find extremely useful, is the Online Poetry Classroom, which has a LOT of resources, mostly geared toward high school teachers.

Despite the odd name, www.plagiarist.com has lots of good stuff, and it's all in the public domain or used by permission. Here's one of my favorite light poems from the site. The site owners say, "We are NOT a site that will help you with your homework (unless your homework involves reading fine poetry). The previous owners of this domain name sold term papers to cheaters (who almost certainly got caught). I'm sure the members of the forums would be happy to discuss things with you, but our goal is to provide information and an online repository of poetry to those who enjoy reading poetry, not for students looking for an easy way to finish off an assignment."

Poets & Writers has a site I visit sometimes, if only to look at the Grants and Awards section and dream...

The Associated Writing Programs web site is also good, mostly as a clearinghouse to links to other places.
